Killian and Flavia Joint Post

Killian became aware of pain. Realizing that he was waking up took a bit longer. He sat up and pain raced across his body. For a moment, he was completely disoriented, then the night before came back to him.

The sun. He had seen it, only for a moment, but the picture of the sunrise was burned into his memory.

Blood tears streamed down his face like lines of liquid fire. Any touch at all was agony. He attempted to lay on the floor again, but the carpet felt like sandpaper against his skin. Backing into a corner, Killian crouched there, consumed by the pain.

Killian couldn't count the time that passed until the door opened and Flavia came in. A long pause followed.

"Why are you here?" she asked at last. Killian looked up at her, confused for a moment. Had he died? Was he in Hell now? That would explain the pain. But, no. Flavia was standing there, undead, unharmed.

"I... I thought you were dead..." His voice was a hoarse whisper.

She stared at him, noticing his burns. "I didn't think you'd care. Besides, I am dead. We all are."

"I thought..." Killian paused, each word hurting him. "that you'd.... gone into the sun."

"I told you I didn't have the courage to do so." She looked over his burns again, a small frown appearing on her forehead. "What about you, what drove you to get so badly burned?"

Killian was quiet for a moment, getting up the strength to speak again. "I was afraid you were locked out. I was going to look for you, but the sun rose."

"So you did care enough about my wellbeing to not want me to burn in the sun. How nice of you." She sighed and looked over his burns again. "You look terrible."

"I feel worse," Killian replied. He looked up at Flavia. "What do I do? It hurts so bad." He shifted his weight, catching himself from crying out.

She shrugged and looked around her apartment briefly. "I guess you'll have to feed or something. I haven't really dealt with vampire burns before... maybe those sunoils mortals use could help?"

Her words swirled together in Killian's head. He couldn't pick any solid idea from her words. His thoughts kept returning to the picture of the sun blazing on the horrizon. Sun. Burns. Mortals.... Mortals!

"Flavia... I think... I think someone saw me... before I got the door shut. The mortals... they know we're here."

"Wonderful. Now I'll have to deal with that as well, even though I promised myself yesternight I wouldn't bother with this age any more..."

Killian huddled miserably in the corner. So much for his concern. He was begining to think Flavia wouldn't have given it a second thought if he had been destroyed by the sun. But then he remembered his harsh words the night before. He couldn't blame her for being mad at him.

"Flavia, I'm sorry," Killian said. "Please... don't leave me."

"Killian, I can't do anything for you," Flavia told him. "I..."

"I need blood," Killian said, looking hungrily at her. Flavia took a step back, rejecting his suggestion.

"No."

"Flavia, I need..."

"Killian, no. You're not touching me. I might get you a mortal if you ask nicely, but I..."

She stopped short, turning toward the closed door and listening. Both vampires could hear mortal footfalls, coming to the door. Flavia flashed Killian an angry glance. The night was just getting more and more annoying for her.

Both vampires listened as the foot steps paused outside the door. After a moment, the mortal knocked.

"Did you order out?" Flavia asked with a slight laugh. It took a moment for it to sink in to Killian's mind that Flavia had actually made a joke. After that shock wore off, the next one hit.

"That's Nathan," Killian whispered. "That's Nathan at the door."

"So, you wanted to feed, right?" Flavia said, swinging the door open.

Nathan was surprised when the door opened. He had come twice before, earlier in the day, after someone had called, saying they had seen the man from the 'missing' posters.

"Hi..." Nathan began, then hesitated, uncertain of how to procede.

"Would you come in?" Flavia asked, stepping back and motioning for him to enter. Nathan hesitated a second longer, then stepped into the dark room.

"Flavia!" Killian hissed, too quiet for a mortal to hear. Flavia glanced at him, hidden in the dark corner, a smile on her lips.

"I was wondering if you recognized this man?" Nathan asked her, holding up one of his posters. Flavia glanced at the poster.

"Oh him? Sure," she replied. She could hear Killian growling at her from the corner, still under Nathan's hearing range.

For a moment, Nathan's face fluctated between expressions of surprise, delight, and supressed hope. "Do... Do you know where I can find him?" Nathan asked finally.

"Maybe... why do you want to find him, anyway?" Flavia asked. In the corner, Killian became silent. Nathan paused.

"Because he's family," Nathan replied. Flavia narrowed her eyes at him, clearly not satisfied with that reply. Nathan contiued. "I was there the night that... he was taken. If nothing else, I want to know why it happened." He paused, but Flavia waited. "The family thinks I'm crazy for beleiving he's still alive. It would make them very happy if he came home."

"Get him out of here, Flavia!" Killian growled, too low for Nathan to hear. "Get him away from me."

"When... or maybe if you find him, I think you'll find that he has changed both more and less than you could ever imagine," Flavia said to Nathan.

"Well... Yes. Of course. It's been twentyfive years," Nathan replied.

"Get him out!" Killian continued, restraining himself from making any move.

"Please," Nathan said. "If you know where I can find him, please tell me. Or where I can look. Anything. Please." There was a desperation in his voice that surprised Flavia.

"Flavia, his eyes are growing used to the dark. He'll see me! Get him out!" Killian hissed at her.

"It would seem he doesn't want to meet your family again, though... with the exception of your daughter. Tell me, how is she doing?" Flavia asked.

Nathan blinked. "She hasn't woken yet." He fought back sudden tears.

"Flavia!" Killian stood suddenly, forgetting to keep his voice low. They all fell silent. Killian looked at them like a trapped animal. Nathan peered through the darkness, trying to decern more than a black figure in the shadows. He hardly trusted his ears.

"Killian?" Nathan said quietly.

"Damn you, Flavia," Killian growled. Nathan stood there, looking between the two, aware that he was missing something.

"Nathan..." Killian stayed where he was. "You should go."

"But..." Nathan glanced at Flavia for help. "What is this, Killian?" Nathan tried to fight down his feelings of anger and disappointment.

Killian and Flavia Joint Post

"Flavia, you made this mess. You clean it up," Killian growled.

"oh ho! You want to talk about messes? Shall we talk about your little drive the other night?" Flavia crossed her arms and smirked slightly in Killian's direction.

Killian crossed the room in an instant, shoving Flavia against the wall, his hand at her throat. A flash of pain crossed his face, but he hid it. Nathan opened him mouth in shock, but shut it again when words failed him.

"Don't. You. Dare." Killian hissed at Flavia.

"Killian!" Nathan jumped forward, trying to pull Killian away from Flavia, who appeared to him to be just a young girl. Crying out in pain, Killian let go of Flavia and backed away.

"Flavia..." Pain and anger were mixed in Killian's eyes.

"Why not, Killian? Why do I have to clean up your messes? I hid that victim of yours, I got the girl out of the car, I got rid of the girl you told our secrets to, and now, you're trying to blame me for bringing him here, when it was you who were foolish enough to let yourself be seen."

Nathan turned and looked at Flavia, pieces of the conversation sinking in. "What do you mean, you got the girl out of the car?" he asked her, his voice full of suppressed emotion.

"Flavia, you shouldn't be doing this to him. He shouldn't know these things," Killian said.

"He has searched for you for all these years... don't you think it's time to let him know what you've become? Or are you going to keep watching them all from afar until they've finally forgotten about you?"

"And then what will you do to him? Kill him, like you did that girl?" Killian asked.

"Oh my, you almost sound as if you weren't intent on killing her yourself, Killian."

Nathan stood back, watching the exchange with growing fear. Killian and Flavia stood between him and the door, otherwise he might have tried to escape.

"What do you want, Flavia? Do you want me to kill him?" Killian gestured toward Nathan. "Or do you just want to drive him mad? It's too late now, isn't it? He already knows too much. So what now? What happens when he leaves? There are other vampires out to get me. Nathan wouldn't even be a challenge for them. And what about broken trust? I'll be hunted down for it. And you. Don't think the others won't count you in as well."

"Nobody will have to die as long as he keeps silent. But you're right, maybe it'd be easier if we got rid of him," Flavia said.

"You won't touch him," Killian replied.

"Who will stop me? You, a young, weak, burned fledgling?" Flavia smiled slightly at him, daring him to attack her again. "Anyway, I wasn't the one who was begging for blood just a few minutes ago - you were."

"What... are you talking about?" Nathan asked, fear and alarm in his voice.

"Tell him... or are you too much of a coward to?" Flavia taunted.

"You want me to tell him?" Killian snarled. "Alright, I'll tell him." Killian turned to Nathan, who took a quick step back. "We're vampires. That's what happened that night. It was a vampire that took me. And it was a vampire that took Alice. I took her. And I wrecked that car. I put Alice in the hospital in a coma.

"We're monsters, Nathan. Killers. I've killed every night for the past twenty five years. Sometimes more than once. Ten thousand mortals, Nathan."

Killian turned on Flavia again. "Are you happy? Is that what you wanted? Now he knows." Killian stalked back into the shadows on the other side of the room.

Nathan stood there, his mouth open, trembling.

Flavia leaned slightly towards the wall, looking between Nathan and Killian. "Yes, he knows. What're you going to do about it, Killian? Are you going to leave another mess behind, as usual? Or are you going to actually deal with it?"

" 'Deal with it'?" Killian turned toward her. " 'Deal with it'?" Killian walked slowly back across the room toward her. "Deal with what, exactly? As I remember, you let him in."

"As I remember, you were the one foolish enough to go show yourself in front of that mortal, Killian. That mortal who saw you almost burning to your death this morning. Speaking of which, you need blood to heal... and you need to make sure he doesn't talk. Why don't you add two and two together and see what you come up with."

"Well, I'd rather consider this equation; one very annoying vampire who's talking too much, plus one very thirsty vampire not wanting to listen to her... I think that equals something different from what you had in mind."

Killian lunged at her, grabbing her by the shoulders and pushing her hard against the wall, knocking all the air from her lungs. She barely had time to react before he lifted her some inch from the floor and sank his teeth into her neck.

"Oh god..." Nathan stumbled back, but couldn't take his eyes off of them.

Flavia tried to push him away from her, but he held on to her with all his strength, and as he drank, he seemed to gain more and more power. She kept struggling, but it was all in vain. "Killian. Killian, stop it. I told you... stop."

Killian made no reply, but continued to drink. Nathan stepped forward in the darkness. He was afraid, but facinated. After a moment of considering, Nathan flipped on the light. Only dim overhead bulb turned on, but it was plenty for Nathan to see by.

With the knowledge that both Killian and Flavia were vampires, Nathan was ready to see anything. He was only mildly surprised by what he saw. Killian still looked as he had twenty five years ago, but badly burned. But, as he watched, the burns were healing. Nathan watched, transifxed.

But then he glanced at Flavia. Her struggling was growing weaker. There was a look like fear in her eyes.

"Killian," Nathan stepped forward, putting his hand on the vampire's shoulder. "Killian, stop. Let her go." Killian looked up, surprised.

"Oh, I see how worried you really were for my well-being, Killian... just didn't want any of my blood to go to waste, did you?" Flavia snapped.

"Killian..." Nathan pulled on Killian's shoulder. Killian took a step back, his eyes on Flavia. He let Nathan pull him back a few steps.

Flavia touched the wounds on her neck lightly as she glared at Killian. "Get out. I don't care how you deal with this mess of yours, but that's your problem, not mine. Out."

Nathan stepped between the vampires, pushing Killian toward the door. Killian and Flavia's eyes were locked.

"I'll go," Killian said. "I'll go, but you better not touch them."

"Killian," Nathan opened the door. "Let's go."

Flavia considered his words, her hand still on her neck, despite the fact that the wounds were almost completely healed by now. "I'll leave them alone as long as they don't say anything. Now go."

Nathan pushed Killian out the door. Glancing back over his shoulder, Nathan looked apologetically at Flavia. "Sorry about all this," he said.

He looked up and was startled to see another vampire standing outside the door.

A lot of people doing a Joint Post

Xade stood on the other side of the doorway, his usually placid dark eyes churning with emotion he was trying to control.

"You…dare, Killian," he managed to spit out. "This woman watched out for you when no one else would, and you dare rape her blood!?"

Conflicted, he moved forward and grabbed him by the neck of his shirt, disregarding the human and pulling him out into the hall. In his anger, he forgot about sensitising him to his powers, forgot about trying to be an old, friendly figure to the boy. All he wanted was to get him out, and get him out fast.

Nathan tried to keep a grip on Killian's arm, but he was tossed aside and staggered to his knees. The fear he felt was no longer for himself, but for Killian.

Killian grasped at Xade's wrist struggling to keep his footing as the older vampire drug him away from Nathan and Flavia. Killian cried out a little as his collar cut into burnt flesh.

Nathan scrambled to his feet and tried to push between Killian and Xade. "Let him go. We were leaving," Nathan said. He met Xade's eyes and a sudden thrill of fear passed through him as the realization of what he was fighting hit him again. He glanced over at Flavia, who was standing in the doorway, her face completely hard and passive, watching. Nathan began to tremble again.

Xade bared his teeth at the human, showing Nathan the piece of him he hoped would one day kill the human. Letting go of Killian, he slowly moved forward, having already thought of a dozen different ways to dispose of his body.

With a snarl, Killian attacked Xade, shoving him roughly away from Nathan. The mortal shrank back against the side of the building, his eyes glazed with fear. The small part of his mind that was still rational could hardly see anything human about the figures around him. More like wolves or wild cats.

"Don't. Touch. My. Mortals." Killian growled in Xade's face.

Xade hissed back, his body remaining supple under Killian's attack. "You think that you could fight me and have a chance of winning yet, Killian? Especially in the state you're in?"

You aren't ready yet, he whispered into his mind. Go now with your pet and feed… I'll come for you later.

Something in the voice calmed Killian, although the words grated on his nerves. Taking a step back, Killian looked around him. Nathan was slumped on the ground, shaking. Flavia watched him coldly from the doorway.

Xade watched, fuming, as Killian quietly coaxed Nathan down the hall and away from all the undead. With a last look that would send shivers up anyone's spine, Killian disappeared around the corner with his nephew.

Now turning back to Flavia, Xade was at a loss for words.

The long awaited Flavia and Xade joint post

Flavia waited until Killian was out of sight before she touched her neck, where the wounds had already closed, with only a little blood showing where they had been. She turned her gaze to Xade.

"What should I do? I try to talk sense into him, but he won't listen. Anything I try..." she stopped talking, then shrugged. "I don't know how to keep going anymore."

She went silent again and Xade studied her. In the dim light of the hallway, she could easily have been taken for a frightened teenager, hadn't it been for her eyes, that seemed way too old compared to the rest of her appearance.

Xade sighed, sliding his hands into his pockets. "After a while, you don't think about going on, you just do." He frowned, slowly choosing his words for her. "With Killian... I don't know. I wish I did, but just when you think you know where he's going he'll... change. Maybe... Maybe we aren't meant to know who, or what, he is."

Flavia laughed shortly and stepped back into her apartment. "A while, you say? I've been a vampire for over sixhundred years, Xade, and I find that I think more and more about how I am supposed to go on, the older I get."

She lifted her hand, inviting him in.

Xade's face warmed slightly. "Perhaps you should immerse yourself in material goods. One momentarily becomes distracted by the pretty lights," he jested.

His easy mood changed swiftly as he frowned. "Are you not afraid of me, Flavia da Firenze?"

She shrugged slightly. "I don't fear death - in fact, if you were to kill me, I might even thank you. As for anything else you could do... I don't really care at the moment."

Her fingers once again found the spot on her neck where she had been bitten only a few minutes earlier. "I sound pathetic, don't I? Like the angsty teenager I look like..."

He frowned, taking a step forward to examine the place she kept touching. "No," he answered, preoccupied with her neck. "You sound like a woman who's been raped."

Flavia shrugged and looked away from Xade, out through the dark window. "It's not like it was the first time..."

Xade moved further into the room, tightly leashing his mind and emotions. "You said you lived 600 years ago? It saddens me to not be surprised by that..."

"Years fail to surprise you after a while, don't they?" she replied.

Xade glanced back at her, studying her profile against the window for a moment. "Would you like me to leave?"

She gave a small shrug, still not looking at him. "I don't know. Will you be staying in the city? It was nice to talk..." she trailed off, glancing in his direction for a split second before letting her eyes drift back to the window.

Xade smiled slightly, his marble face warming slightly. "Of course. I'm not about to let Killian tear the city apart, am I?"

"I guess not. Well then, knowing that you'll be around, I think I'll feel less bad about it if I tell you I'd rather be left alone at the moment."

Xade headed towards the door, careful to not make a sound. "In that case, dear Flavia, I am, as they say these days, 'outta here'."

"Very well. I'll see you around," she didn't turn her head or move in any other way, but she still knew exactly when the older vampire left.

He knew me, he knew I would love her more then the waking world. But there was more to it. He lavished affection on her, there is no doubt about that. Perhaps in the end he did it because he was lonely too.
